Send a Message to Recipients

The decision to communicate with a loved one’s recipient is a very personal one. If the decision is made to correspond, we ask that you abide by the following guidelines when writing about yourself or your loved one.

Guidelines for Writing About Yourself or Your Loved One

  • Include only information that you feel comfortable sharing about yourself or your family.  This may include your loved one’s occupation, hobbies, or special memories about the donor.

  • Keep identities anonymous and confidential. Avoid including any last names, street addresses, city names, phone numbers, or names of hospitals or physicians.

  • All correspondence and stories are handled anonymously, and identities are kept strictly confidential.  Only the message provided by the donor’s family will be forwarded to the recipient through their transplanting surgeon.  Recipients may send a letter or card in response; others may choose not to write back — this is their personal decision.

Please note: Everyone has different grieving and healing journeys. Some find writing to the donor family or cornea recipient valuable to their own journey while others may be overwhelmed by the process. Regardless of where you fall on this spectrum, please know that the gratitude in this community is unparalleled – we just all have different ways of expression.
